Online CBT for OCD and intrusive thoughts
CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is one of the most researched treatments for OCD, and it can be delivered effectively online. I work with adults in New Zealand and worldwide.
What OCD can look like
Unwanted thoughts, images or urges that feel shocking or wrong
Checking doors, emails or messages again and again
Seeking reassurance, or searching online for certainty
Mentally reviewing conversations or "neutralising" thoughts
Needing things to feel exactly right
Many people with OCD hide it for years because the thoughts feel so at odds with who they are.
Why do intrusive thoughts feel so real?
Almost everyone has strange, unwanted thoughts. With OCD, the brain treats them as threats. Checking and reassurance bring brief relief, which teaches the brain the threat was real and keeps the cycle going.
What is ERP?
We map out your fears and the rituals you use to cope
We build a ladder of situations, from mildly uncomfortable to hard
You face them step by step while practising not doing the ritual
Your brain learns that anxiety rises, peaks and falls by itself
You set the pace, and we start small. Nothing is forced.
How does it work?
Email me for a free 15-minute call
We agree goals and usually start with a block of 4 sessions; OCD work often continues beyond that
Sessions are 1 hour by secure video, with practice between sessions
Fees
See my fees page for current prices. You book and pay directly; no employer or EAP is involved.
Questions
Does having a disturbing thought mean I want to act on it?
Intrusive thoughts in OCD are unwanted and distressing, which is why they cause so much anxiety. We can talk about yours in confidence.
Can ERP work online?
Yes. Many exposures happen in your own environment, which can make them more useful.
Do I need a diagnosis?
No. We can explore what's going on in the first session.
